A police officer in Mesquite, Nevada saved a child’s life right inside a convenience store and the cop's body camera captured everything unfold.

The incident occurred last Monday. The parents rushed inside the business, Green Valley Grocery with their three-year-old son, Damian Valencia.

The young boy was choking on a Jawbreaker candy and his mother and father were desperately trying to get him help. A cashier called 911 and the dispatcher alerted officers that an emergency call came in from the market.

K-9 Officer Quinn Averett had already completed his shift and was on his way home when he heard the call on the radio. He was only a block away from the scene and decided to respond.

Upon arrival, he saw the father cradling his semi-conscious child. Averett sprang into action and relied on his first aid training to dislodge the candy from the boy's airway. (2,3,1) Damian quickly started breathing and crying before paramedics arrived to check him over.

Days later, Damian and his family met with the heroic officer to thank him. Averett told ABC News “I cried a little bit because it really touched me, because I have children of my own.”

Next month, Averett will receive an award from the police department and city council for his quick-thinking, life-saving actions.
