In his end of the year news conference, President Obama started off by touting gains made in the economy.

He says Americans should enter the new year with 'renewed confidence' in a stronger economy that has created more jobs.

"Over the past 4 years we've put more people back to work than all advanced economies combined," said Obama.

The president said in the new year he wants to work with the new Congress to get things done.

"In terms of my own job, I'm energized, I'm excited about the prospects for the next couple of years and I'm certainly not going to be stopping to make life better for ordinary Americans."
