A woman in Preston, England has raised tens of thousands of dollars to help out a homeless man who offered her his last 5 dollars when she was stranded.

One night Dominique Harrison-Bentzen of Preston, England found herself stranded on the city’s streets, as she had no cash and had lost her bankcard.

While she was figuring out what to do, she was approached by a homeless man named Robbie who offered to give her his last 3 pounds, or approximately 5 dollars, for a cab ride home.

Harrison-Bentzen figured out another way, but the gesture touched her deeply, and she wanted to do something to help him.

She started a fundraiser online in hopes of raising enough money to help Robbie secure an apartment.

The initial goal was roughly 800 dollars, but with 10 hours still remaining in the drive, over 50 thousand had already been raised.

A big boost came when, as a way to draw attention to her campaign, Harrison-Bentzen spent a night on the streets of Preston.

In those hours the online contribution total skyrocketed.

Robbie prefers to stay out of the public eye, but according to a report in the Telegraph his friend said, "He is shocked by the amount of support this has received. He doesn't want any publicity, he's just a nice bloke who would help anyone."
