No end to Parliament deadlock

2014-12-17 7

The winter session comes to an end on December 23 but the opposition continues to stall the house proceedings on various issues. A united opposition is demanding Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement over faith politics. On Tuesday, for the second straight day, Rajya Sabha failed to transact any business as a combined opposition created ruckus over the "explosive" and "emotive" issue of conversions and government's move to hold events in schools on Christmas. As a result of the deadlock, the Insurance Bill, a key reform legislation providing for raising FDI cap from 26 per cent to 49 per cent, could not be introduced in the House even though it was listed on the agenda.
