In the northwest Syrian city of Idlib, rebels show off their spoils of war.

Video posted on Tuesday, that Reuters can't independently verify, purports to show the rebels after they seized heavy weaponry and tanks inside a military camp.

The voice in the video says 'The tanks are everywhere, thanks to God almighty.'

Rebels say they've captured the camp from government forces loyal to President Bashar al Assad.

It's been a two-day battle for control of this and another, larger, military camp.

A monitoring group says 100 Syrian soldiers and 80 Islamist fighters were killed in the fighting, and around 120 soldiers were captured.

More video purports to show Islamic State fighters entering the camp.

The insurgent fighters reportedly included al Qaeda's Syria wing, the Nusra front.

The larger military base they took on Monday sits on the country's main north-south highway that links Aleppo with the capital Damascus.
