Police in New York City are searching for vandals who allegedly slashed tires on approximately 40 cars.

Brooklyn residents were shocked to learn that more than 40 cars parked on their streets had their tires slashed early Sunday morning. Police say they do have a suspect in custody.

A home security camera captured a man nonchalantly walking down the sidewalk before bending down and piercing tires of cars that were parked near the curb.

In another clip, a male was seen walking alongside a woman in the vicinity of the crime spree. All of the targeted vehicles had been parked within a five block radius in Brooklyn.

Multiple tires were slashed on many vehicles, leaving their owners with the expense and inconvenience of having to replace them. According to police, the vandalism occurred between midnight and 2 in the morning.

Brooklyn City Councilman David Greenfield thinks there may be more victims who have not yet filed reports.

Greenfield commented “We must have zero tolerance for this rampant crime spree in our neighborhood. A single tire costs hundreds of dollars, not to mention the time and energy that must be expended to replace it.”

The suspect is reportedly a 20-something male who lives in the area where the crimes were committed.
