In the time since an outburst over macadamia nuts resulted in the resignation of a Korean Air executive, the snack food has experienced a surge in popularity.

A recent outburst, and subsequent resignation, of a Korean Air executive over macadamia nuts has thrusted the snack into the spotlight.

Now, they’re in the news again, with the Associated Press reporting that sales of the snack have increased significantly in South Korea.

They credit the boom to the much publicized incident when a daughter of the Korean airline’s CEO ordered a flight attendant off the plane after serving nuts in a bag, while protocol dictates they be offered on a plate.

Her actions caused a flight delay and a significant amount of public outrage. She apologized and relinquished her job shortly after.

Prior to that, a lot of people had never heard of the exotic nibble and, suddenly very curious about it, rushed to get some for themselves.

Auction, a South Korean site owned by eBay, announced a sales increase of about 12 hundred percent for the nut.

Coupang, an e-commerce firm, has completely run out of macadamias from the Mauna Loa brand.

Shoppers are having a bit of fun with the matter. One consumer requested that their nuts be shipped on a plate, while others have made videos parodying the outburst.
