A man was arrested in Brazil and has reportedly confessed to killing more than 40 individuals over the duration of 10 years.

Sailson Jose das Gracas was taken into custody on Wednesday, not long after he allegedly fatally stabbed a female in Rio de Janeiro.

Following his arrest, the accused told officers he also murdered 37 other women along with three males and a toddler. He claimed to have murdered them for the fun of it and the adrenaline rush he got as a result.

Law enforcement officials described 26-year-old Das Gracas as a psychopath. He would often stalk the victims for months before breaking into their homes and committing the murders.

Das Gracas said he preferred to target white women and oftentimes, strangulation was his killing method. Police have launched an investigation to determine if his confession is true and thus far, they’ve found four victims who match the description of those he admitted to murdering.

In addition to killing for his own pleasure, Das Gracas also said he was paid for a number of the slayings, as part of murder-for-hire plots. He has expressed no regret about the deaths and even claimed he would kill again if he was ever free from prison.
