Belgium honored its former Queen Fabiola on Friday (December 12) after she passed away last week aged 86.
Royals and dignitaries from across the world arrived for the funeral in Brussels, with the ceremony held at the Cathedral of Saint Michael and Saint Gudula.
Empress Michiko of Japan, Grand Duke Jean, Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg and former King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia of Spain were among those in attendance.
Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, King Harald and Princess Astrid of Norway and Prince Moulay Rachid of Morocco had also traveled to Belgium to pay their respects to the former Queen. No British royals attended the ceremony.
Spanish-born Fabiola, widow of King Baudouin and queen between 1960 and 1993, had been ill for some time and her breathing never fully recovered after a lung infection in 2009.
