Comedian Bill Cosby was sued for defamation on Wednesday (December 10) in Massachusetts by a sexual assault accuser who said he branded her a liar in public statements made through his representatives denying her allegations of abuse.

The lawsuit is at least the third arising from a wave of sexual misconduct allegations leveled against Cosby by more than a dozen women during the past several years.

The alleged assault occurred in the early 1970s.

Neither Cosby nor his attorney were available for comment.

The cast of dark existential comedy "Birdman" led the Screen Actors Guild film award nominations on Wednesday (December 10), earning four nods from its peers in the kick-off to the Hollywood awards season.

"Birdman," about a has-been Hollywood star bent on reviving his career on the stage, netted nominations for Michael Keaton (best actor), Emma Stone (best supporting actress)
