2014-12-11 1

Brazil's Truth Commission, established to investigate human rights violations committed during the country's military dictatorship from 1964 to 1985, seeks to end amnesty for those guilty of such crimes. The Commission puts the number of those killed or "disappeared" at 434. Until, now, because of the 1979 amnesty law, the government cannot prosecute those guilty of human rights violations committed during the dictatorship. Among the victims of torture was current President Dilma Rousseff, who has called for uncovering the truth and also for reconciliation. teleSUR
