A woman gave birth on Tuesday in mid air while aboard a Southwest Airlines flight from San Francisco to Phoenix, Arizona.

The plane had to divert from its original course to make an emergency landing at the Los Angeles International Airport after the baby was delivered.

A nurse and doctor that happened to be passengers on the airplane assisted the woman while she was in labor.

One of the passengers, Ely Alexander is quoted as saying: “It was just amazing that that happened on a plane. No one freaked out, no, it was all very calm. It was really amazing how calm it was and how many people came to help.”

Upon landing, an emergency response team from the Los Angeles Fire Department took the mother and newborn infant to the hospital.

There were 111 other passengers onboard, who took another flight to Phoenix after a two and half hour delay.

The gender of the newborn wasn’t released, but this is reportedly the second time that a passenger has given birth on a Southwest airline flight.

Back in 2009, a woman gave birth to her son on a flight from Chicago to Salt Lake City.
