Clashes in Basel at anti-OSCE demo

STORY: Police and protesters clashed in Basel on Friday evening (December 5) as an anti-OSCE demonstration turned violent.

Masked protesters threw projectiles and firecrackers at riot police, who responded by firing smoke bombs.

The protest took place at the end of a meeting which gathered foreign ministers from member countries of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.

Demonstrators took to the streets of Basel shouting and holding large anti-OSCE banners as riot police lined the street.

Talks at the OSCE summit held on Thursday and Friday focused on the crisis in Ukraine.

Demonstrator Denis Melnichuk, from East Ukraine, told Reuters Television he was there in support of his country.
