Controversy’s favorite Pakistani actress Veena Malik has out rightly denied the charges of blasphemy after being sentenced for 26 years. On November 25, Gilgit-Baltistan anti-terrorism court announced the verdict and sentenced Veena Malik, owner of Geo TV Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman and Shaista Lodhi TV host of the controversial morning show, aired on May 14.
While talking to BBC Veena said:
“We strongly believe in our religion and respect it. It is beyond our wildest imagination to even think of disrespecting the institution.”
Veena further said that she accepts as true that religion is being used for personal gains. She added that husband and she are innocent, and they were sitting respectfully when the devotional song was being played.
When asked that why she left Pakistan, Veena Malik said;
“I was pregnant and had to take care of my baby, and the “fabricated” news had upset people that eventually led to massive protests.”
