During the early morning hours of Tuesday, a 22-year-old man was arrested after he drove his late model Mustang onto a Golden Gate Bridge sidewalk. The affected section of the path is typically used by bicyclists.

According to California Highway Patrol staffers, the driver, Daniel Soto slammed the gas pedal as he was turning right into a parking lot. His Mustang ended up stuck between the Golden Gate Bridge railing and a chain link fence.

California Highway Patrol Officer Andrew Barclay commented “This individual went over metal pylons, squeezed through very tight areas.. To any normal person, it would be obvious that you're driving someplace you're not supposed to.”

Soto managed to drive the Mustang about 400 yards down the sidewalk before the vehicle became firmly lodged. The airbags deployed and Soto was later transported to the hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.

He was arrested for ‘suspicion of driving under the influence’. Initially bridge officials weren’t sure how exactly to handle the removal of the vehicle.

Eventually they decided to recruit a crane to lift it out of the tight spot. The Mustang was moved onto the back of a truck about 5 hours after the incident.
