UKRAINIAN PRESIDENT PROMISES CITIZENSHIP TO FOREIGNERS
The president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko made an astonishing announcement on Twitter on Tuesday December 2nd. The head of state said he would be granting Ukrainian citizenship to any foreign national coming to Ukraine to fight Russian repression, protecting the country`s sovereignty and independence, from the ongoing attacks form pro-Russia separatists in eastern Ukraine. And he`s already starting to put his words into action…
In a second tweet Petro Poroshenko named three foreign nationals who were given Ukrainian citizenship on Tuesday for services rendered to the country. American woman Natalie Jaresko, a Lithuanian man Aïvaras Abromavicius and Alexandre Kvitachvili from Georgia were not just given Ukrainian citizenship, they were also appointed to top government positions.
And as the Kyiv Post writes in an online article there will no doubt be more naturalisations over the coming days and weeks. The Ukrainian daily reports that Petro Poroshenko is planning to offer a number of highly placed state service positions to foreign nationals; the aim being to build a government of trustworthy ministers and officials, with no ties to neighbouring Russia.
