Stephen Hawking Says Artificial Intelligence Is A Threat To Human Existence

Stephen Hawking is happy with the artificial intelligence system that helps him speak, but remains leery of making technology in general too smart.

When we talk about threats to the human race, climate change, an asteroid collision and a nuclear war are cited the most.

Now, more and more scientists are saying that artificial intelligence is an existential threat as well.

Stephen Hawking recently told the BBC that if computers are given boundless thinking abilities, they could outpace the humans who granted it.

Said Hawking, "It would take off on its own, and re-design itself at an ever increasing rate. Humans, who are limited by slow biological evolution, couldn't compete, and would be superseded."

The celebrated physicist also commented that if the scenario plays out to its full extent, it could result in the end of human existence.

His remarks were in response to an upgrade of the AI technology he uses to communicate.

Another prominent personality, Elon Musk seems to share Hawking's beliefs on Artificial Intelligence.

What do you think? Can robots one day come to a logical conclusion that the best course of action is to erase the human race?
