Young people from the poverty-stricken ghettos and barrios of Los Angeles have banded together as in a full-fledged orchestra. The program is sponsored by the LA Philharmonic Orchestra and the instruments are donated and the lessons free. The orchestra keeps youth off the streets and out of gangs; indeed, many of its members will become professional musicians. The program is based on a similar successful model in today's Venezuela.
