Members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, released an army general and two other captives Sunday paving the way for peace negotiations to resume in Cuba.
The talks between Colombian government officials and the Marxist guerrillas were stopped two weeks ago after the general and four others were captured.
Government officials said the hostages' release would prompt members of their team to return to Havana for meetings.
Members of the FARCs team have repeatedly asked for a ceasefire during peace talks, but Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos has continued to say it's out of the question.
At the talks in Havana, the government and the FARC reached a partial agreement on land reform, ending the illegal drugs trade and political participation for demobilized rebels.
Around 200,000 people have been killed in Colombia's 50-year conflict.
