The first image of a Colombian general and two other hostages released by FARC has been shared by the Colombian government on social media.
The Marxist rebels captured five hostages two weeks ago. In response Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos suspended peace talks in Cuba.
The rebels then liberated two captive soldiers on Tuesday before finally freeing General Ruben Dario Alzate and two others on Sunday.
FARC representative Ivan Marquez said:“We invite President Santos to consider whole heartedly and with common sense that we cannot continue extending this dialogue for peace in the middle of war. It’s time for a bilateral ceasefire, for armistice.”
There are hopes the stalled peace talks, aimed at bringing an end to the decades of violence in Colombia, can be resumed.
Santos announced he will meet with government negotiators to discuss the terms of his return to the Cuban capital Havana. It’s hoped this will happen at the beginning of December.
