The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) released two captured soldiers on Tuesday to the Red Cross. The rebels said that captured General, Ruben Dario Alzate and his companions, could be freed as early this weekend, but continue to demand that the Colombian military suspend operations in the area where he is being held in order to avoid jeopardizing his release. President Juan Manuel Santos called the release of the two soldiers yesterday an important step. According to reports from the Choco area, the government has yet to pull back or scale down its military operations in the area. Charles Parkinson reports from Colombia. teleSUR
