One can never know when and where a sinkhole will open up. Recently the ground gave way in Australia right underneath a woman’s feet.
It's scary to know that a life-threatening sinkhole can pretty much open up anywhere.
Recently the ground gave way in Australia right underneath a woman’s feet.
45-year-old Christina Beaumont was hanging up laundry on a friend’s property when the collapse occurred. She fell into the nearly 10-foot deep pit.
Beaumont had to float and swim in the water near the bottom of it until help arrived. She was left in the sinkhole for approximately 20 to 30 minutes before neighbors heard her pleas for help.
Firefighters arrived on scene, tied rescue knots on a rope and lowered it down the sinkhole to free Beaumont.
Paramedics checked her over right after the ordeal and determined that she wasn’t injured. However, when the mother-of six returned home, she collapsed and was transported to a local hospital.
Doctors there concluded she suffered a blockage to her heart caused by hypothermia. Medical staffers believe it will clear on its own in due time.
Council engineers will investigate what led to the sinkhole’s opening. Until the probe is concluded, residents on the street have been asked to stay indoors.
