All across the world, there are environmental activists known as ‘tree huggers’. One Peruvian man has taken that mantra to a whole new level, as he recently married a tree, for the second time.
All across the world, there are environmental activists known as ‘tree huggers’. One Peruvian man has taken that mantra to a whole new level.
He recently hugged – and kissed – a tree as part of a wedding ceremony that took place at a national park near Bogota, Colombia. This makes it the second time Richard Torres has wed a tree.
Last year, the environmental activist and actor married one in Argentina. He kissed and even licked his makeshift bride in front of a crowd.
During that ceremony and the most recent one, Torres got all dressed up, donning a white suit. He or the attendees placed symbolic offerings at the bottom of the trees.
The vows were spoken and then Torres slid his ring on and those who were in attendance got to take part in all of the wedding festivities. In both ceremonies, he had the same goal of raising awareness for global environmental problems.
It doesn’t seem like Torres is willing to stop expressing his beliefs anytime soon. He has said that he plans on spreading his message to other Latin American countries, but it’s uncertain if that includes wedding additional trees.
