You could be paying a high price for that doggie in the window, especially if you plan on buying one for your family. Many pet stores and Internet vendors across the country are taking advantage of consumers by selling animals bred in “puppy mills,” which are inhumane commercial kennels that raise dogs in cramped, filthy conditions. In an effort to fight back, the ASPCA (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) is launching a new campaign to raise awareness about the hazardous breeding practices of puppy mills. The ASPCA wants to educate the public on how to find the perfect pet for you and avoid irresponsible breeders.

ASPCA Supervisory Special Investigator, Annemarie Lucas, the star of Animal Planet’s award-winning series “Animal Precinct”, tells viewers the importance of fighting against these inhumane breeding practices.
