Mexican president publicly discloses personal assets

2014-11-20 3

In a highly unusual move, Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto has disclosed his personal assets in an attempt to calm down criticism of his wife's intention to buy a US$7 million mansion. Peña Nieto owns nine properties and his personal assets top US$3.6 million. Only two other Mexican presidents have publicly revealed their assets. The President's wife, actress Angelica Rivera, announced Tuesday that she will no longer buy the house. Since the property is owned by a company holding a multi-million dollar contract with Peña Nieto's government, speculation was rife that corruption was involved. teleSUR
