A captioned photo retweeted by the assistant principal of Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk, Virginia has prompted NAACP intervention and a demand for action.

The image shared by school authority Amy Strickland features several couples all dressed in prom-like attire. The males are black and the females are white.

Its caption reads, "Every white girl's father's worst nightmare."

Assistant Principal Strickland shared the Tweet in June, but it just recently came to the attention of students at the school.

Several of them asked to meet with her, but their requests were ignored.

Finally, a group banded together and walked out of class in protest.

NAACP Norfolk branch president Joe Dillard said he fully supports the students’ action and is calling for the school board to investigate and remedy the situation.

The students have some requests of their own.

Said one of them, "… we don't want her to be fired because everybody needs a job. Transfer her, punish her, do something to let us know it has not gone unnoticed."

The school board was slow to respond to the issue but has finally released a statement noting that the situation is under review.
