The Colombian Government has halted peace talks after the capture of General Ruben Dario Alzate by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC.) The guerrilla group admitted on Tuesday that it was holding the Colombian general whom they claim was captured committing an act of war. A massive military rescue operation is underway to recover the general and two people who were accompanying him. The FARC is willing to seek a solution with the government and called for peace talks to be resumed. Rebel negotiator Pablo Catatumbo said that in the absence of a cease-fire, which Colombia's government has repeatedly refused since 2012, incidents were bound to occur. The Colombian government still has not said what was the general doing unarmed, in civilian dress, in rebel held territory with no security detail. teleSUR
