Police searched for 23 fugitives in Colombia on Tuesday (November 18) following a riot at a juvenile detention center in Bogota.

Inmates at the 'El Redentor' prison facility staged a riot in the early morning hours and authorities dispersed tear gas in an effort to quell the uprising.

Prisoners set mattresses on fire and threw rocks and sticks at security personnel.

Forty-three prisoners escaped during the riot, however police managed to capture 20 escapees. The search continued for the remaining 23 fugitives.

At least 27 police and security personnel suffered injuries in the revolt, while minor injuries were reported for several of the detainees.
