Three dead in Kabul suicide blast, female lawmaker survives

Emergency crews work on the scene of a suicide bombing that, police say, claimed the lives of at least 3 civilians in Kabul.

Shukria Barakzai, an outspoken female Afghan lawmaker, suffered slight wounds but survived the attack... An attack that targeted her vehicle, according to police.

She's a women's rights advocate, and had previously told Reuters that she had run a secret school for girls. This, during the Taliban's harsh rule.

She's also a close ally of newly-elected Afghan President Ashraf Ghani.

The bombing was the latest to target members of the U.S.-backed Afghan government, which is fighting a fierce onslaught by the Islamist Taliban movement.
