Senior BJP leader L.K. Advani on Friday said more than anything else it was the Congress which helped the BJP to come to power in the 2014 Lok Sabha poll. He said he had no regret over not becoming Prime Minister as ‘the respect he gets from all parties and leaders is overwhelming’.
The way the Congress committed scams one after the other, it helped the BJP more than anything else to come to power, Mr. Advani said.
The senior BJP leader was here to attend a function at a residential school for Dalit students.
Replying to a question, Mr. Advani said he had no regrets over not becoming Prime Minister. “ The place I got in Parliament and the respect I got from all political parties have been overwhelming and it is more than becoming the Prime Minister,” said the octogenarian leader.
When asked about his assessment of the Modi government, he said that since it had spent only a little time in the office it would not be fair to give any fair assessment on its performance.
“But whatever the Modi government is doing by far is good and nothing objectionable. It will be properly assessed when more time would pass but indications are good,” said Mr. Advani.
