In today's program, host Andy Sebastia interviews Ecuadoran writer and scholar (and also former professional athlete in basketball) Gabriela Aleman. A prolific author, Aleman has lived in more than half a dozen countries and her experiences growing up and as a professional athlete and scholar have shaped her writing. She received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2006 and was part of the Bogotá 39 Competition in 2007.Her most recent book is La muerte silba un blues, published by Penguin Random House in 2014. Aleman has researched and written about the life of Nela Martinez, the first Communist senator in Ecuador. teleSUR
