Taking the proverb to the extreme, Italian artist Sven Sachsalber will spend two days searching for a needle within a haystack at a museum in Paris.

Many people have compared certain tasks to finding a needle in a haystack, but one artist is actually doing just that.

An Italian performance artist, is currently attempting to find a needle in a haystack placed inside a museum.

The Paris-based contemporary art space, Palais de Tokyo is hosting the event, which began yesterday and will last for two days.

The director of the Palais de Tokyo had the honor of placing the needle within the heap of hay. He also said of the performance, "It is a symbol of the search we are all doing for something.''

Though it's 48 hours in its entirety, the artist is only spending 12 hours each day actually searching, with a 12 hour break afterwards for rest.

He is known to base his works on physical exhaustion, and generally plays the main part in most of them.

His feat can be viewed by museum-goers and through a live stream on YouTube.

If he can't find the needle in the allotted time, the event may continue until he can find the needle in a haystack.
