CCTV footage has captured the dramatic moments of an attempted robbery that occurred in Sunderland, UK. A suspect walked into a local convenience store, Max & Sons, armed with a machete and approached Max, the long time shopkeeper.
Max was able to use the counter between them to keep the masked suspect at bay giving the 63-year-old shopkeeper time to grab a pole in self defense.
Both the victim and assailant were battling over the counter taking swings at each other and doing their best to avoid the blows.
Max was able to hit the suspect on the shoulder with the pole and he then quickly fled from the business. Unfortunately he suffered three cuts from the blade and encountered an injury to his middle finger.
Detective Sergeant Nick Lawrance remarked “The footage is clearly distressing… This sort of incident is extremely unusual in the area and I’d like to reassure people we’re doing everything we can to trace the man in the CCTV.”
