You wrote me a letter
In pink, scented ink
With flourishes and arabesques
I could smell you perfume on the paper
You wrote of love, of hope, of patience.
I think of your hands, your face, your hair
And in my mind, you sit beside me
And in my mind, you will not leave me,
Or throw me away,
Like a discarded plastic bag in a supermarket car park,
I pray to God that I am proved right.
