Aditi Khandelwal - A Night In The Woods

2014-11-10 10

As I walk on the moist grass
Looking around in the pale light
At the flowers colored like rusted brass
And trees whistling in the lonely night.

Finding a place to sit alone was not too hard
Listening to the sound of insects and birds
More melodious than the song of the bard
With rhythmic beats from faraway footsteps of leopards.

For an hour shamelessly I stare
At the face of the dark sky
Interrupting privacy of stars and moon – the lovely pair
Can’t tear my gaze even if hard I try.

I start thinking of words to describe the scene
After sometime I give up reluctantly
When this beauty started to feel like a dream
I stood up and walked back home silently.
