Phyllis Strong - Destitute

2014-11-10 24

Another night without anything to eat
no heat in the house,
no shoes for their feet.

You wander the streets
where will you sleep?
You dig in the trash;
for something to eat.

Dwell under a bridge,
in tent or in box
defecate in a hole;
that’s home of a fox.

Beg for some change
from those in your same boat,
Winter is coming;
you need a warm coat.

Sell your precious body
for the green dollar bill
taking any drug;
for a pain you can’t kill.

Right here in America.

Let me not end,
on such a sad note;
Jesus Christ is the answer,
He’ll give you hope.
