If my Fairy Godmother’s somewhere above,
Listening to my wishes with tender love,
My heart’s desire I’d pour out to her,
“I wish I had my own big brother…”
To be his little sister, his beloved pet-
Oh! I yearn to be- that’s the best!
My big brother on whom I can count
Wherever I maybe in sight and sound.
Even as I see cheerful girls’ eyes
Twinkling with joy on hearing, “Here I’m sis”
And hugging with affection in a swish
I think wistfully, ”I too wish...”
He’d scold the naughty me
And laugh out at the funny me
I’d be delighted just on seeing
Him so proud of his little sibling.
I’d be his little sister - who annoys him,
Teases him and looks up to him,
Whom he helps, whom he chides,
Whom he keeps in place and loves.
To pout and plead with him when others say no
And earning his support while doing so
To look smug when he comes in fault
Yet to cry and laugh with him deep from heart.
To have my big brother, that’s my need
It can’t happen, but dreams do heed.
I long and wish dearly for him
Always searching among close ones for him.
If I had him – my own brother,
Hand in hand we’d walk together,
His assuring smile, and kiss on my forehead,
Would be my support till the very end.
