Hiram Sims - The World According to a 26year old

2014-11-10 9

I find it a privilege to be among the breathing
To walk among the inhalers and exhalers of these latter days
And having gone to sleep and woken up 9490 mornings in a row
I look forward to the heaven and hell that waits for me at my front door
And that is life to me-taking the good and the bad
while hoping for mostly good

I live to be complimented and to be cursed out
I live to answer the phone when my momma calls and hang up on Sprint, Sallie mae, and Direct Tv
I live to eat a avocado bacon cheeseburger with a large fries and a orange soda, and take a nap immediately
knowing that guilt and depression may be waiting for me when I wake up
I live to be told by my wife that I am the most handsome man she knows,
and half an hour later to be told that I look like a fat grizzly bear
That’s is life to me-both sides of the coin

I live to be told by my father that I lived the life of a rich white boy as I reminisce about the days five of us lived in a hotel room
I live for the joy of going to church and knowing I memorized the order of the first twenty books of the bible and for the shame of knowing I can recite all three verses of Mo Money, Mo problems by Biggie
I live to remember watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
and the LA Riots on the same television on the same day

I live for the overdraft fees and the free twenty dollar bills
from my Aunt Glenda
For the classes I passed and the ones I failed, for the jobs I quit and the ones I got fired from
For the grandmother I lost and the babygirl I’m about to have
Because that is life to me
Taking the good and the bad and hoping for mostly good
