David Harris - Hunter’s Moon

2014-11-10 5

In a trench on the frontline
with a periscope, I survey
the no man’s land in front of me.
The moon is a hunter’s moon
where any movement is silhouetted
against the night sky.
I sit and watch
for the clouds across the moon
when we will get the orders
to climb over the top and charge
to meet the enemy eye to eye
never knowing if you are going to die.
You will if you are caught
under a hunter’s moon.
