Janice Windle - (Stuff and Nonsense) Cautionary Tale: The story of Lizzie who gave up Dieting and found Love

2014-11-10 2

A lady way beyond her prime
used all her energy and time
attempting to conceal her age
by dieting and subterfuge.

Her Friends said, ”Dear, you’re an example
to us all, with busts too ample! ”
and Lizzie (for that was her name)
enjoyed their flattery – but just the same
she could not find a loving mate -
the answer lay in what she ate
(which was, I fear to say, not much:
meals with her were always such
a sad occasion – Liz would blanch
at offers of a decent lunch.)

One day Miss Lizzie met a man
as round as Punch, who laughed and sang
and swept her off her tiny feet
and cooked, and made her want to eat.

And now Liz is so round and jolly
she looks back at her past as folly
for surely it’s a better thing
to eat and love, not dieting!

Moral: Food is the food of love.
