You taught me love
When you let me hold you
With my fingerless gloves
And my old hat askew
But as those fingers nestled
In the nape of your neck
And my mouth tried to settle
On the heart of your chest
As I nibbled your ear
And mumbled your name
I wrestled the fear
That you felt the same
I know that I’m yours
And believe that you’re mine
But I hear closing doors
With the passing of time
Now I’m prostrate
Preparing to give
I’m loving the taste
But I’m longing to live
For so many years
I was godless and free
Sailing through tears
But the captain was me
So I’ll cut you adrift
Then I’ll cry, Bon voyage!
And when the clouds lift
I’ll be just a mirage.
