Sandra Martyres - And life goes on

2014-11-10 4

Daily at the crack of dawn
He would sit in his armchair
Sipping a cup of
Cloyingly sweet tea
Not to displease
His granddaughter
Who had prepared it

For him it was just
Another uneventful day
With the birds as usual
Singing in the trees
And the dog lazily
Slouched on the floor
Right beside him

Occasionally he would
Look towards the sky
As if to thank God
For all the blessings received
Life was not unpleasant
Despite his loneliness
Following his wife’s death

He would spend long hours
Talking to the plants
Believing that kind words
Made them grow better
Similarly he would entertain
His grandchildren with
Tales from the days of yore

His neigbours envied
His peaceful life style until
It struck them one day that
He always seemed confined
To his armchair, only then
Did they realise that
He was completely blind.
