ANDREW BLAKEMORE - Into My Heart A Cruel Wind Blows

2014-11-10 1

Into my heart a cruel wind blows
That chills my blood as I now mourn,
For all the scenes that once spread far
Across the verdant land,
Now lost unto this urban mire
My eyes care not to look upon,
These squalid streets of untold fear
Where smoking chimneys stand.

Into my heart that once held love
And yet that has been torn away,
The hills now masked by tower blocks
Which to the sky ascend,
That as a child I looked upon
To see the rising of the dawn,
As morning filled the darkness
Now the night does never end.

Into my heart that beats no more
For all my feelings now do flow,
Along the dirty gutters
To the drains that lie ahead,
With all the leaves now wrapped in tears
From token trees to break the lines,
And ease the greys of city sprawl
Yet soon they shall be dead.
