john tiong chunghoo - Haiku Quest - The Woods Dancing in Top Forms

haiku:

canopy
leaves dance
with lights

poem: haiku quest - Dancing in Top Forms.

alluvial spreads
their fragrance
and colour
with the rain.
the river so clear
begins pouring
coffee out to sea.
the woody smell -
musk minus the
warm musculine trappings -
trail the paths,
as the trees
tickle visitors
with intermittent
cold droppings
from their leaves.
the fertile loose
alluvial trapped
in a cycle game,
from wood to fertiliser
and to wood again
feed millions
round the world.
just below the trees
if you rest and
watch upward,
you cannot help
entertained
by the dances between
the leaves and lights.
in top forms, the woods
reprise their cyclic dance
that sustains the world
over and over.
so much we owe to the woods
and soil, and the
mixture of soil and wood
since the dawn of light.
