There's no one I'd rather do than you
in lieu of you not being faithful or true
you are my first and my last,
that's my promise number two.
My first promise of course
was to be honest with my love
I've given it some thought
and it's one thing I'm sure of
The third of my promises
is hold fast to my patience
to wait as long as it takes
to miss my long absence
My friends may tell me
that such commitments are foolish
for you may have played me
for a fool left in anguish
But I say if love is such a grand ideal
why not embrace it as something real
instead of letting it be fleeting
and never truly believing
that something so pure could not handle a thing such as time
and that something so delicate could not be captured in rhyme
You commit to love yourself first
then share that with another
with all their flaws
you bring the best to your lover
and freedom shall remain together
for a love that can last forever
