Percy Dovetonsils - Provocateur

2014-11-09 6

Brother mine
only one of us
raped the other one of us

though
neither
represented it
as a crime
at the time.

If you give me
a birthday gift
this year
make it
your first visit
to a shrink

because
I've thought
about
our shame
until
I can
no longer
bear
to think.

I've done
all the
heavy lifting
for 40 years,
and
I'm
flat out
spent.

A larger man
than I
would forgive you
and forgive himself
as well.

But
every time I try
I find
you
devising
some
fresh
torment

and pointing
smugly
when I squawk.

You
are
my
only
brother.

But to embrace you
is to love
my assassin.

These days
when Cain kills Abel
he leaves him alive
so he can keep on
killing him
time after time.

Now THAT's
the
perfect crime
