He stepped on the beach
And onto a mine
The sun, the moon, and stars exploded
And in the flash of an eternal question
A timid, country boy
Laid down his youth
Let go the ball and string
Unraveling in the sand of a time undone
Half-alive, half-dead
In half
The surf washing the blood from its hands.
