I am in the dark, a deep well,
yet you can see me
looking down from above.
Matter is wrapped around me,
water and moist air cling to me
down here
away from you,
or so it seems.
Down here,
lost in the shadows of
my own little world.
Looking up
through the pillar of darkness
I saw you in a bright circle of day
shining above.
I really saw you there for a moment,
leaning kindly over the circular stone wall,
looking into my world,
light shining from your kind face
and for a moment I was with you.
Oh my beloved, lift me out!
And I will be gone,
emptied over your fields,
where you are,
the seed of everything worthwhile.
O you, my great and generous friend
who helped Joseph, thank you
for looking after me now
and evermore.
