Hearing you is listening
to music beyond
my range, my capacity.
Experiencing you
is seeing the stars
in the sky above
on a clear bright day
with sunlight
a darkness
but when it happens
there is no mistaking,
for it is more real
than the shadowed day
and anyhow, different.
It is no pretense,
this strong
surprising clarity.
I prefer the depth
of this madness,
and your open arms
and considerately hidden presence,
to any sanity.
