Hawaiian Officials Study Lava Flow for Road Strategy

Hawaii highway officials conducted an experiment on November 7 to assess the viability of rebuilding a road over the Puna lava flow where it engulfed Apaa Street. The flow of lava from Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano has been paused since October 30. Scientists from the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory flew over the site of the original lava flow on November 7 and will continue to monitor lava breakouts upslope from Pahoa village.
